The Reflex M is available with basic power supply, or the better PSU1 power supply, and a choice of voltages and power plugs. There is also an option to have a mono switch fitted. The Reflex M won’t give you premature saturation! Its input is optimized for high output cartridges so it won’t hit the stops no matter how hot the signal. Plus it has lightning reflexes — that’s why we call it the Reflex M — its slew rate which determines its tempo performance and superbly precise stereo imaging, is far higher and is purely natural compared to a switchable MC/MM phono preamp.
Suitable Cartridges
Moving magnet (MM); high-output moving coil (HOMC); high output moving iron (MI) – in the output range: 1.6 – 9.2 mV (ref 1kHz at 5cm/sec)
Your amplifier’s volume control is intended to be set to give you the loudness you want and should be adjusted accordingly. With the lowest output cartridges you will need to turn the volume control higher than you would use with other sources such as a CD player.
Using Moving Coil Cartridges
Conventional (or low-output) moving coil cartridges output around one tenth of those of ‘MM sensitivity’. The Reflex M can be used in conjunction with a step-up transformer or even better, the Elevator EXP step-up amplifier, to allow you to use moving coil cartridges. Alternatively a dedicated MC phono preamp such as the Reflex C may be used.
The benefit of using the Elevator EXP with a Reflex M is the ability to use all cartridge sensitivities just by swapping connections. Our customers often prefer the sound of the Elevator EXP & Reflex M combination for MC to the Reflex C.
